Red Brick Warehouse

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse that is located in Yokohama is a histrical building. This warehouse is built by the goverment of Japan at 1913. In 1900s, the harbor of Osaka and Kobe were the most prosperous harbor in Japan. On the other hand, the harbor of Yokohama was delayed in development. To rival the harbor of Osaka and Kobe, Yokohama city were strongly pushing development of harbor. Eventually Yokohama city's enthusiasm was successful in acquiring state supports, and then Yokohama city and Japan government cooperated to build harbor. Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse was built at that time. Since then, this warehouse was used as bonded area over a long time. After the Pacific War, it was temporarily used by the Allies of World War II. In 1989, this warehouse finished the role of bouded area. For a while since then, this warehouse was neglected. However, this warehouse was renovated to composite facilities that has a hall, shopping mall, and event space in 2002. At that time, it started a second life.
